This Finland-centered report analyzes the shift away from territory-based geopolitics and towards the geopolitics of 'global flows' and 'global commons'. More specifically, it looks at 1) current global geopolitical trends; 2) the growing importance of the maritime domain in international geostrategy; 3) the geostrategic dynamics of Finland's proximity to the Arctic; and 4) the role of Finnish national preparedness planning in a world of global flows. The authors further argue that understanding (geo)political changes in the framework of global and regional interconnectedness is likely to become increasingly vital for national security in Finland and elsewhere.
