This commentary examines three distinctive challenges which Pakistan faces at the beginning of 2014: 1) the resurgence of militant mullahs in Islamabad, 2) the power struggle between the government and the military, and 3) the government’s entanglement with the independent media. The author presents the stakes of the key actors involved and outlines potential future scenarios for the country.
