Has UN peacekeeping had a positive effect on Pakistan's police force? This brief believes so. The policemen who have participated in UN operations have improved their colleagues' professionalism and their sensitivity to human rights, gender equality, and the rule of law. Because of these benefits, the brief's author concludes, Pakistan needs to lift its current and self-imposed ban on police officers joining future peacekeeping deployments.
