The United States Institute of Peace (USIP) is an independent, nonpartisan and government-funded organization that devotes itself to the nonviolent prevention and moderation of deadly conflicts throughout the world. It fulfills this charter by actively engaging in the world's conflict zones, performing peace-related research and analysis, operating teaching and training programs, and providing grants. The USIP Peace Briefs Series supports these efforts by providing an array of comprehensive, policy-centered analyses that focus on peace and conflict issues.
