This report examines members of the Nuer ethnic group in South Sudan who are fighting in the country's civil war on the side of the SPLM/A-in-Opposition (SPLM/A-IO), and who are popularly known collectively as the "White Army". In particular, the authors examine the origins, leadership structure and composition of the White Army as well as its role in Nuer society.
