This analysis takes stock of Egypt's political and economic situation one year after the ousting of President Mohamed Morsi. In doing so, it looks at 1) the political retrenchment occurring under Abdel Fattah el-Sisi; 2) the resurgence of the Egyptian military’s domestic power; 3) the increasing political polarization and violence occurring in the country; 4) the need for economic reform and its impediments; and 5) how Egypt's evolving politics might impact its relations with the US, the EU and Switzerland.
