What does Russia's involvement in Ukraine signify? According to this analysis, it represents 1) a bellicose and system-wide shift in Russian foreign and security policies; 2) the fanning of patriotic, traditionalist and populist agendas within the country; and 3) an opportunity to accelerate the government’s clampdown on those groups it thinks are internal security risks. While looking at these developments, the text also looks at their probable consequences -- i.e., the undermining of Russia's economy and its ability to create a successful Eurasian Union.
