This brief analyzes the report that resulted from South Africa's third African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) National Programme of Action (NPoA), launched in January 2014, which examined what what progress has been made in dealing with the country's governance challenges since the previous report in 2011. The author argues that while the reporting of APRM matters in the 2014 report was better than that of previous reviews, it is still unclear what value the APRM brings to efforts to enhance governance in South Africa.
