Ahead of the September 2015 expiration of the US African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), this brief reviews the main features of reauthorizing the act as well as the actors involved in this process. In particular, the author 1) provides a brief overview of the background of the AGOA; 2) discusses the role of the US executive and legislative branches in AGOA's reauthorization; and 3) outlines how a swift AGAO reauthorization could be prevented by such factors as the US legislative process and US lobbying interests.
