Based on a 2013 Afrobarometer survey, this paper explores the perceptions of Swazis on gender equality and women's participation and representation in public affairs. The findings show that in comparison to men, Swazi women are less interested in public affairs, more intimidated by the complexities of government and politics, less likely to participate in political campaigns, and more concerned about campaign-related violence. Finally, there is a divide between what the people say (72% say that women should have equal rights) and what is practiced.
