This paper examines international approaches to tackle climate change through a fictional assessment of developments in such efforts from the perspective of the year 2030. The authors also propose an alternative approach to the existing UN climate change summits which attempt to address the issue. In particular, they suggest that in order to mitigate climate change, countries should impose taxes on carbon emissions and create emissions trading systems. They also contend that this approach would not undermine efforts to address economic problems, but would rather help countries create jobs, improve economic growth and reduce global levels of poverty.
