This brief examines the role of post-apartheid South Africa in African regional affairs 20 years after apartheid. The author argues that even if South Africa has been able to raise its voice and prestige in continental and international affairs, its diplomatic actions have become less consistent with the core values of democracy, human rights and good governance that supposedly underwrite its foreign policy and constitution.
