This brief discusses the Lusaka Ceasefire in 1999 and the 2004 Dar es Salaam Declaration, which were both designed to end conflict in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The author then examines the regional economic factors that played a part in the creation of these agreements and argues that the examples provided by these cases illustrates the importance of both the economic factors and the regional dimension of the conflict in the DRC.
