This paper examines the nature and function of discursive slogans during the 2011 Egyptian revolution. Using examples of some of the slogans written in public places during this time, the author argues that the content reflected a tendency towards democratization. This tendency, however, seems to have ended when the Egyptian military seized power in July 2013.
