This commentary discusses how North Korea featured as an issue on the sidelines of the 2014 APEC Summit in Beijing in light of such developments as Pyongyang's release of two US prisoners. The author also discusses the extent of the leverage China has over North Korea and contends that the public statements that came out of the APEC Summit suggest that there could be an increase in diplomatic efforts to deal with North Korea's nuclear weapons program.
