This analysis compares the separatist movements in Eastern Ukraine and Transnistria. It concludes that the movements, although both backed by Russia, are indeed different and may well yield different results. Moscow's attempts to prop up the movement in Ukraine, for example, may be much harder to sustain, which may then spur it to escalate hostilities in the future.
