This brief discusses US-South African energy relations and the attempt by both countries to work together to improve access to energy across Africa. In particular, the author examines 1) the potential impact of increased US domestic energy resource production due to shale oil and gas on the global energy market; 2) US energy engagement across Africa; and 3) US-South Africa cooperation in the energy sector.
