This paper examines the structure and performance of the financial sector in Ethiopia as well as the regulatory measures in the country that support financial stability and the promotion of inclusive growth. The author finds that despite efforts in the country to enhance financial inclusion, it remains very low. He suggest that one of the main reasons behind this is the lack of access to financial services. The situation, he argues, has been made worse by changes made to financial regulation that have led banks to operate extremely conservative lending policies.
