The report examines evidence from international agreements and other international initiatives to derive lessons for the design of sustainable development goals (SDG) for the post-2015 development agenda. The author's main argument is that the international community should not settle for practical, achievable goals and targets over ambitious principles that could strengthen international norms and give national groups a further point of leverage to bring about change. She also suggests that SDGs should be considered as closer in nature to international human rights and environmental agreements than international programs or the SDG predecessors, the Millennium Development Goals.
