This brief examines some of the foreign relations strategies that Vietnam has employed in the post-Cold War era. In particular, the author discusses how Hanoi dealt with Beijing over a dispute in 2014 regarding oil drilling by a Chinese company in an area of sea claimed by Vietnam, and how Vietnam maintains relations with the other major powers in the region such as India, the US and Japan.
