This paper provides an overview of the lessons learned from attempts to verify arms control agreements around the world over the last fifty years and how they can inform efforts to reduce the number of US and Russian nuclear weapon arsenals. The author particularly focuses on the lessons learned from the START Treaties - especially the New START treaty from 2010 - between the US and Russia, which deal with nuclear weapon reductions.
