This paper examines political culture in South Africa, with a particular focus on the area of citizenship and whether there are significant differences between the politics of youth in the country and other age groups. In general, the authors contend that there are real problems in South Africa with regard to what role people believe the citizen should play as well as the extent of active political engagement in the country. However, they also contend that these problems are not particular to young people in the country and that there are only minor differences between age groups.
