This article discusses Russia’s growing oil and gas exports to the Asia-Pacific region, following the signing of the 30-year gas deal between Russia’s Gazprom and China’s National Petroleum Corporation (CNCP) in May 2014. The author argues that even if Moscow wants to shift its energy business from Europe to China, Gazprom will need Western revenues to build the desired pipeline infrastructure.
