This article discusses whether the threat posed by the so-called Islamic State in 2014 has led to a strengthening of Iraqi Kurds’ sense of national identity. The author argues that if anything, mounting socio-economic and political tensions inside northern Iraq have led to a weakening of Kurdish nationalism for the last decade.
