This article discusses whether the specter of diplomatic isolation in the wake of the 2014 Ukraine crisis and a wish to contain China's regional influence could spur Russia into meeting Japan's post-Fukushima energy needs. According to the author such an arrangement is unlikely until Moscow and Tokyo resolve their dispute over the Kuril Islands.
