This article argues that the Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) has been remarkably successful in restraining the nuclear ambitions of most states. However, the author also contends that if it is to succeed in the future, some states must uphold their convictions while the those states seeking to work against the treaty must recognize that proliferation is ultimately a dead end.
