This issue provides an overview of conflict trends in a number of African countries up to January 2015. In particular, the authors examine 1) protest activity in Algeria against the government’s proposal to extract shale gas; 2) clashes between Boko Haram and Cameroon's military; 3) the conflict in the Central African Republic; 4) the reasons for the spike in protests and political violence in Egypt in January 2015; 5) the activities of the terrorist group Al Shabaab in Somalia; and 6) the ceasefire agreements that have been made during the civil war in South Sudan.
