This article examines the connection between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's economic policy. or 'Abenomics' and his approval of the first increase in Japan's defense budget in 2013 since 2003. The author argues that Abe wants to find new partners to export arms to, thus contributing to the economic growth.
