This article looks at Washington’s decision to station a drone base in Niger, asking whether the move is just about collecting more intelligence data in Mali. The author his doubts. To him, the base represents an attempt to secure a military foothold across Africa, but at a fraction of the costs incurred in Afghanistan and Iraq.
