This paper looks at the pursuit of energy self-sufficiency. The author argues that despite the western publics' belief that energy self-sufficiency is an ideal response to those who attempt to wield the ‘energy weapon’, no state will be able to achieve full energy independence, let alone avoid future spikes in prices, in an economically globalized world.
