Following Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s re-election in December 2012, this article addresses concerns that Japan’s foreign policy will become increasingly nationalistic. The author argues that despite tensions between China and Japan, Abe’s behavior towards China will be pragmatic and leave the door open for compromise.
