This article discusses the implications of the new leadership appointment at the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2012 for reforming Chinese politics. The author argues that the appointed hardliners to a slimmed down Politburo Standing Committee confirms that dramatic political changes will not be forthcoming.
