This paper discusses the P5 Process, the aim of which is to address the progress among the five official nuclear weapon states under the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (China, France, Russia, the US and UK) towards their nuclear disarmament obligations. The author also examines the political problems that prevent nuclear disarmament, what led to the creation of the P5 Process, and how the aim of nuclear disarmament has been affected by the deterioration in relations between the West and Russia following Moscow's annexation of Crimea in 2014.
