This article explains that although New Delhi was initially reluctant to condemn the Syrian regime’s crackdown on internal political unrest in 2011, its recent change of heart reflects an evolving realization in India that the country cannot avoid making tough political decisions if it hopes to have a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
