This article discusses how China and Japan use national humiliation to underscore their international relations and strategic cultures. The author argues that whereas Japan has used a historical narrative of humiliation to become a pacifist state, China sees it as an opportunity to consolidate its global power status. He also believes that these dynamics might be about to change.
