As the title suggests, this article examines the development of transnational terrorism since the 9/11 attacks, with a particular focus on the effect of the influence of Al Qaeda. The author contends that while Al Qaeda itself has weakened since 9/11, this has not marked the end of the ideological appeal or worldview of the group as the influence of Al Qaeda has led not only to the creation of groups with direct links to itself, but also ones, sometimes with a particular regional outlook, who have simply been inspired by the organizations’ message.
