This paper uses survey data to examine infrastructure service availability for mobile phones, electricity, water, roads and sewerage in Africa as well as citizens’ demands for such infrastructure on the continent. The key findings of the authors include that 1) lower income countries have fewer services; 2) in terms of citizen demands in Africa, people are most concerned with jobs and income-related issues, as well as with the availability of infrastructure; and 3) among the different demands for infrastructure, Africans tends to cite transportation and sanitation more frequently than other types of services.
