This article looks at what lessons can be learned from the counter-insurgency era that spanned the US-led interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq. According to the authors, COIN was more of a narrative than an empirical concept, it concealed ideologically-tainted modernization projects that worked at cross purposes with actual needs.
