This essay discusses the global trends that will shape the future of international development cooperation and the implications of these trends for development policy. In particular, the author argues that three key trends will affect the future of development: 1) The concentration of poverty in fragile states; 2) inequality in middle income countries; and 3) the increasing impact of transboundary problems. He also outlines what the international community must do to deal with the challenges created by these trends.
