This paper analyzes the creation and potential operational scale of the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB) and the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). After reviewing how the capital structure of the NDB and AIIB was created, the author examines how the two banks’ portfolio and annual lending potential could evolve. He also looks at how the governance structure of each bank will be crucial in determining membership and ensuring operational effectiveness.
