This paper looks at the evolution of the concept of eco-innovation and its role in the EU's sustainable development policy. The authors also examine the different measurement approaches and challenges associated with identifying and using indicators to measure progress in eco-innovation, with a particular focus on the www.measuring-progress.eu web tool which aims to improve the way in which policy-makers and others can access, understand and use indicators for eco-innovation.
