This brief discusses what led the US and Russia to abruptly suspend most aspects of their nuclear security cooperation in 2014. The author also 1) highlights differences in how the United States and Russia approach nuclear security; 2) identifies what limited nuclear security related work will likely continue to exist between the two countries; and 3) looks at potential opportunities for future cooperation related to nuclear security between the United States and Russia.
