This brief examines the UK military's conflicted position on whether the country should maintain its nuclear arsenal or not. The brief’s author reminds us that there are those within the armed forces who prefer to fund the country's conventional capabilities at the expense of investing in ‘nukes’. However, there are others who believe that Great Britain’s nuclear status raises the country's overall economic and political commitment to the military, which could be undermined by unilateral disarmament.
