This issue provides an overview of conflict trends in a number of African countries in July 2015. Among other topics, the authors look at 1) the shift in political strategy and increased lethality of violence in Burundi; 2) the de-escalation of conflict between Malian government forces and the Tuareg-led Coordination of Movements of Azawad (CMA) rebel group in Mali; 3) the decrease in violence in the ongoing civil conflict in South Sudan and the government's increased use of militia forces there; 4) violence against Darfuri students in Sudan; and 5) how competition between Islamic groups in Tunisia is leading to an escalation in political violence in the country. The authors also explore issues related to reporting lags in realtime conflict data, as well as the relationship between state fragility and armed conflict across Africa.
