This September 2015 edition of Conflict Trends reviews the status of different conflicts in Africa. Among other topics, the report's authors focus on 1) allegations of impropriety by peacekeeping forces in the Central African Republic; 2) government repression of journalists and civil society in Egypt; 3) the possibility of the so-called Islamic State extending its reach across Africa; 4) decreased levels of violence following peace talks in South Sudan and a reduction in violence against civilians in Sudan; 5) economically driven protests in Tunisia; and 6) the violence surrounding Zimbabwe’s by-elections. Finally, two special features explore the containment and diffusion of violence during peacekeeping deployments and a Gini Index-based interpretation of inequality and conflict across Africa.
