This article argues that the traditional dominance of the Atlantic region by the US and Western Europe is starting to erode. The author also discusses how developments in the 21st century may have laid the foundations for a new geopolitical conceptualization of the region, one she describes as a 'wider Atlantic' and which she believes can better reflect the growing influence of Latin America, the Caribbean and other areas.
