This brief explores the possibility of further NATO enlargement. It begins by citing which countries have been historically reluctant to join the Alliance (Sweden and Switzerland) and the four nations that are eager to become members: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Georgia, Macedonia, and Montenegro. After briefly pointing out why the first three candidates are unlikely to join NATO anytime soon, the brief's author then concentrates on Montenegro, which hopes to receive an invitation to join the Alliance by the end of 2015.
