This report focuses on India’s current political and economic preoccupations, its ambitions for the next decade, how the ambitions track with US national interests, and what Washington should do to refine its policies towards New Delhi. One of the report's key recommendation is that America should make India's economic growth the top priority in US-Indian relations, which can be facilitated by the US 1) supporting India's membership in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum; 2) signing a bilateral investment treaty; 3) starting high-level discussions on bilateral sectoral agreements; 4) crafting a long-term path towards a free trade agreement or Indian membership in the Trans-Pacific Partnership; and 5) increasing the trade in arms. At the same time, the report urges India's leaders to deepen their commitment to economic liberalization and better relations with Pakistan.
