This paper contemplates the possible ways to measure UN Sustainable Development Goal 16.1.2, “Conflict-related deaths per 100,000 population, by sex, age and cause.” The text’s authors contend that the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) data is robust enough for short-term use. Otherwise, new internationally sanctioned methodologies will have to be developed in order to compile official statistics on conflict deaths.
