This paper analyzes the impact of global warming as well as of international instruments such as those generated by the Kyoto Protocol on development and structural changes in the electricity sector of Guangdong Province, China. The authors examine the available data, put them into an explanatory economic and institutional framework and analyze the possible application of international instruments such as Clean Development Mechanisms (CDMs).
